Have Faith in God!

We serve a God that does really big things. We can see this well documented truth from Genesis to Revelation. He is the miracle working God. Ephesians 3:20-21(NKJV) says, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” God can do exceedingly abundantly above any prayer request or desire that is on our hearts, and He is willing to bless us this big. The question we must ask is whether we are willing to meet Him in this place. Will we trust Him this big?

We’ve become very accustomed to brand names. Every entrepreneur is consumed with this notion of branding. We like the idea of being known for something that clicks with how we’d like to identify ourselves, and how we’d like others to perceive us. Well, our Heavenly Father has no limits. There isn’t anything He can’t do, and no problem is too big for Him to solve. He must be identified with the truth of who He is. Sometimes, we become so boxed in by our own thinking that we try to squeeze the bigness of God into our little boxes. This never works. He commands us in His Word to renew our minds. They must be expanded to take in the magnitude of God’s love, power, and sovereignty.

God wants to do great things in our lives. This cannot be denied. But sometimes our vision regarding what God can do is very low. We have low expectations that are based on the lives we had in the past. Our reality is such that, if we are in Jesus Christ, we are no longer the person we used to be. 2Corinthians 5:17(NKJV) tells us, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” The old is no longer our identity. It is not our brand, and we should not seek to identify with it.

Some of us live a life where hope seems to be continually on vacation. This is not a new condition. People have been living this way thousands of years. This was especially so during the time that Jesus Christ came to the earth. Matthew 9 gives us a record of a woman that thought she was without hope, but then she heard about Jesus Christ. She had a disease which caused her to hemorrhage for twelve long years. Having a disease during those times was exponentially more difficult than it is now. This woman’s illness caused her to be labeled as unclean. She had to be isolated and separated from her family and loved ones. According to the law, this was necessary so that her family would not bear the stain of what others believed to be a curse for some sin this woman might have committed.

The recent restrictions from the pandemic help us to sympathize with this woman’s situation. She was alone and fearful of dying with no one by her side. Exhausting her funds on remedies and doctors, she tried everything, but nothing would help. She was desperate, but then something wonderful happened to her. She heard about Jesus Christ, that he is the Son of God, and he was healing the sick. Can you imagine her excitement? This was the only glimmer of hope she had experienced in twelve long years, but the reality of the choice she made in her mind cannot escape us. After hearing about Jesus, this woman could have acquiesced in doubt and said to herself, “Oh, I’ve tried everything. This will only be more of the same.” But praise the Lord, she did not do this.

Romans 10:17(NLT) tells us, “So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.” The woman with the issue of blood heard the word that Jesus Christ was preforming the miraculous, and hope came into her heart. She began to dream and envision the possibility of being united with her family and having a home life again. Up until this point, she had no hope, but Jesus Christ changed all of this for her. The mere possibility of who he is and what he might do for her changed her attitude from negative to positive, and this allowed faith just the opening it needed.

The wholeness and healing that she would receive was playing out in her mind over and over again. In Matthew 9:21(NKJV) She said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” What believing! What faith! When she touched him, Jesus Christ felt the healing virtue leaving his body. Matthew 9:22(NKJV) tells us, “But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour.”

Some of us today are in this same place. We’ve tried everything to bring happiness and healing into our lives and hearts, but nothing leaves us feeling whole. We need to come to God in the name of Jesus Christ with a child-like faith and know that He will meet us with all that we need. It is not complicated, but we make it so. We think to ourselves that we will not see results because our faith is weak or small. A mountain can be moved with only a mustard seed’s worth of faith. We must not be deceived by the enemy. Do not let your dream be confined by your circumstances. Trust God’s Word and believe that He wants to bless you. Don’t shrink in unbelief, instead ask God to help you shape and mold your dreams to fit His Will. When you do this, and you’re committed to be obedient to His Word, you’ll witness His power in an amazing way. ■
