The Spirit Will Guide You to the Truth

The emotional struggles of life can cause us to be vulnerable in ways we never imagined. We can feel overwhelmed, confused, and exhausted from all the ups and downs. We might even feel as though we’re at a crossroad in our faith. God tells us that we are more than conquerors. We’re overcomers in Christ. This is the truth, but sometimes we allow the pain we feel to blur our vision. Rather than confessing the truth of God’s promises repeatedly, our emotions overcrowd our minds, and this is just the opportunity the enemy waits for. Whispering defeating messages in our ears like, ‘You’re going to lose’, ‘You’re not enough’, ‘It’s never going to happen for you’, these are common tactics that the devil uses, but we don’t have to fall for it, and we shouldn’t. We need to know that God always has the answer, and the winning strategy in any battle is to put our trust in God and have unwavering faith in Him.

God tells us in Hebrews 4:16(NLT), “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Heavenly Father wants us to have faith that we can come to Him with anything we’re facing. When we do, He promises that we will not return in the same shape we were in before we came. He says that at the times we need Him most, we can receive His mercy and amazing grace. This will require us to step outside our doubts, confusion, and fear, and leap with all that we are into the Father’s arms. It’s totally surrendering to Him and knowing that by doing so, everything will be all right.

Jesus Christ told his disciples in John 16:27(NLT), “for the Father himself loves you dearly because you love me and believe that I came from God.” This should be tremendous comfort to us. God is our Father. We didn’t set this relationship up, He did. He is delighted to have children, and He wants to be a loving Father who provides and cares for us. Jesus Christ taught in Matthew 7:11(NLT), “So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.” All parents sin and fall short of the glory of God. Good biological parents are not perfect, but still want to do their very best to provide for and take care of their children. Well, God is perfect beyond perfection, and He knows exactly what we need, even before we are even aware of it. He knows how to bless us in the very best way, and He is happy to do so.

No matter how old we are, we are still God’s children, and He wants us to rely on Him, because He is able and willing to take care of us. This truth should be anchored in our minds and hearts. 1John 5:1-5(NLT) tells us, “1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. 2 We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey his commandments. 3 Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome. 4 For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. 5 And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.”

Many people have turned their backs on God. Some of them think there are too many rules and they don’t want to take the time to follow them. The truth is that following God through the Lord Jesus Christ is not a chore. It’s not burdensome. 1John 5:3 tells us this. Following God’s commandments is an unimaginable blessing, and He has given us the gift of His Holy Spirit to help and teach us as we journey forward. Jesus Christ said in John 16:13(NLT), “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.” So, it is clear that in order to be the overcomers that God has made us in Christ, we must follow the Spirit’s guidance, because he will lead us to the truth.

Sometimes, we don’t want the truth, because the truth is light, and light always exposes darkness. Becoming the person that God has called us to be and living out our purpose in His Will is going to require us to take responsibility. This is something many of us haven’t done. When it comes to the painful circumstances of our lives, we have blamed a situation or a person, but we haven’t looked at ourselves. We haven’t asked the Holy Spirit to guide us to the truth so that we can confront issues within us that might have laid the groundwork for a mishap. It’s possible that we didn’t trust God’s promises the way He requires, or maybe we put another person or thing above our responsibility to Him. Whatever the case may be, we must be accountable and come face to face with an attitude or behavior that causes us to depart from the example of Christ. We must allow it to be exposed to the love of God.

Romans 8:37(NIV) states, “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Our reality as more than conquerors doesn’t mean that we aren’t going to have challenges in life. We will, and some of them come with heartache and pain, but God’s Will is that we trust in the power and authority we have received through Jesus Christ. Our journey on this earth is one of learning spiritual lessons that help us to grow in God’s strength, faith, and wisdom. We must never listen to any voice that tells us we are defeated, and that includes our own voice. When we trust Him, God will help us to overcome any adversity or obstacle. He is guiding us to the destiny that He has set for our lives, and if we will follow the Spirit’s guidance, we will bask in the victory of Christ which overcomes the world.
