“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
John 10:10(NLT)
Most of us would be satisfied with just an abundant life, but our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, left his throne and came to earth to make available a life that is more than abundant. If we’re being honest, many people would not say that they are living this way. Instead, they feel defeated and sad, and they don’t feel they have what it takes to change this. Jesus Christ is our hope, and when we place our hope in him, Romans 5:5 tells us that we will not be ashamed. In other words, we won’t be left with egg on our faces when we trust our Savior’s great love for us all.
Jesus Christ didn’t leave his throne and come to earth only for people that always seem to get it right. He came so that all of us would accept his love in our hearts and give our lives to him. God wants a relationship with every person. He doesn’t want our problems to get in the way of our growing close to Him. The only thing that God requires from us is that we have faith in His love and power.
Many of us realize this, but in the first part of John 10:10, Jesus Christ very plainly tells us that the thief wants to steal our joy and happiness, and to destroy everything that is meaningful in our lives. Because of this, sometimes we are overwhelmed. We become fearful and filled with anxiety. We feel the weight of our burdens and they seem too much to carry. God tells us that the way too overcome and resist the enemy’s tricks and plots is to stay spiritually strong. Instead of giving in to negativity, we can make a different choice. We can make a commitment to learn more about Jesus Christ, and keep our faith muscle flexible and strong.
